Gathering of Tribes
The tribes are coming back. A week of communities, makers and seekers at Myoho Valley, 10 to 16 May 2027.
Register a campJoin a campMapWhat is the Gathering of Tribes?
A week-long temporary village for the regenerative movement. Not a festival with a stage and an audience, but a village built together by the people who come: communities, land projects, makers, artists, practitioners, families and people still looking for their tribe.
Each community arrives as a camp. It makes a home on the land and offers something to everyone else: workshops, conversations, meals, music, ceremony and practical work. Together the camps are the Gathering.
The Gathering began in Portugal as an experiment in what a festival for the regenerative movement could be. From 10 to 16 May 2027 it comes back, hosted at Myoho Valley, an off-grid valley near Castelo Branco.
Why we exist
All over Portugal, people are trying to live differently: on the land, in community, turning their values into daily practice. Most of these projects work in isolation. They can't see the wider network they belong to, and the people carrying them are often stretched thin.
The Gathering connects these islands. For one week they meet face to face, share what they know and what they need, find collaborators, volunteers, customers and friends, and leave with relationships that last long after the tents come down.
Questions we explore together
A few of the questions the Gathering invites everyone to explore. Come with your own as well.
How do we improve our water retention systems?
How do we learn to help the land prevent wildfire?
How can we create rituals and traditions within our wider alternative living communities?
What does belonging really mean?
How can we set up sustainable bartering systems?
How can we use technology to better serve the wider community and build stronger networks?
How do we regulate safety within our communities and in the movement between them?
How do we create intergenerational spaces where every kind of person is valued, and inclusion is real in every space?
How do we start to operate in a more matriarchal way?
How do we become anti-patriarchal communities and spaces?
How do we raise young leaders?
How do we help the next generation care more for the environment?
How do we ourselves care more for the environment, and go beyond low impact to a positive one, adding to the land rather than only staying neutral?
Is your question missing?
This list belongs to everyone. Write the question you want the Gathering to explore and the team adds the best ones to the list. Name and email are optional.
Four pillars
Earth & Regeneration
Land, water, food and the practical work of regenerating the places we live.Learn moreClose
Healing land is the work of a generation. Here is what we want to dig into together:
- Permaculture: designing food, water and shelter that work with the land, from kitchen gardens to food forests.
- Reforestation and new forests: planting native species, growing forests that bring soil and water back to life, and learning from people who have been doing it for years.
- Living with wildfire: firebreaks, mosaic landscapes, grazing, recovery after fire, and how communities protect the land and themselves.
- Water and soil: rainwater harvesting, swales, composting and bringing damaged ground back to life.
Bring a practice, a project or a question.
Culture & Expression
Music, art, ritual and the stories that hold a community together.Learn moreClose
Culture is what turns a group of people into a community. We want to make it together:
- Rituals for a community: openings, closings and moments of the day and the seasons that help a temporary village feel like one body, shaped by the people who come.
- Music and sound: a good moment for artists, bands, DJs and sound healers to come and share their work.
- Practices to share: movement, breath, meditation, dance, craft, storytelling. If you have a practice, offer it.
- Art on the land: making things together that stay after the week ends.
If you are an artist or a practitioner, the Gathering is for you.
Shared Futures
How we decide, share and sustain ourselves: new structures for living together.Learn moreClose
How can all of us become more abundant inside an alternative way of living?
- Technology that serves life: tools for land projects, communities and neighbourhoods, from open source to appropriate technology.
- Abundance inside an alternative way of living: how people and projects become more resilient and prosperous without leaving their values behind.
- Bringing builders together: tech founders, crypto and web3 people, land stewards and community builders in one village, so everyone can reach every realm.
- New economics: regenerative finance, shared ownership and collective decision making.
Bring your tools, your doubts and your ideas.
Community & Belonging
Finding your people, and making room for everyone who arrives.Learn moreClose
Without community none of this holds. We want communities to be within your reach:
- Communities you can visit: the map and the camps show who is out there to host you, to volunteer with, or to join.
- Making room: welcoming newcomers, elders, families and people travelling alone.
- Staying together: the communication, conflict and care practices that lasting communities rely on.
- The Trade Centre: businesses and makers can sign up to share what they offer.
Don't just attend. Help create it.
Everyone at the Gathering is part of making it. There are three ways in:
- Bring a camp. If you're part of a community or project, bring your people and shape your own corner of the village.
- Join a camp. Pick one of the camps already coming and take part with them.
- Come as you are. Arriving on your own? Stay at Butterfly, the hosted base for people without a camp, and explore everything on offer.
Every camp has a voice in how the week is run through the Council of the Gathering.
Here's how to take part.
